Sir: In a country like Pakistan, so many problems exist either naturally or created by rulers and mafias. Unfortunately, Pakistan has seen that no responsible authority exists for the accountability, checks and balances for the investigation of frauds and embezzlements. Actually, the bodies are present in every department but only to get salary and allowances from the government. In today’s situation, after massive load shedding by the government, many major cities of Punjab, especially Rawalpindi and Islamabad, are observing severe gas shortages for domestic users. The duration of gas load shedding has crossed the time period of 20 to 22 hours daily and this is the worst condition the twin cities have ever faced. One can well imagine how the citizens of both cities have been managing the situation. Even some major newspapers reported that rich houses are enjoying full gas pressure and that this has created a gas shortage for only the poor households. When the government declared that there would be no gas available for commercial purposes and CNG stations for the winter months, surprisingly there was no load shedding. Unfortunately, the Islamabad High Court ordered the government to make sure there was availability of gas for CNG stations three days a week. After this unfair decision, the current crises began. Now the government says it cannot do anything but wait for the cancellation of the High Court order by any other authority. The government is not ready to increase gas production and theHigh Court is not ready to take back its decision. The people are asking whom they should blame? Both of the institutions are made to serve the nation but both are creating problems for their people. ABDUL WADOOD RAJA Rawalpindi
