Sir: This World Cup, New Zealand has stunned cricket fans with their outstanding performance. They not only won all their matches throughout the tournament but also made it to the finals for the first time in their history. The semi-finals between New Zealand and South Africa was one of the most exciting matches of the tournament and New Zealand nailed it. It was a tremendous teamwork. Tim Southee, Martin Guptil, Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum’s amazing performances along with Daniel Vettori’s comeback had made a huge difference to the team’s morale. Vettori’s return to the Black Caps in the ODI line-up in October 2014 has made a great difference to the New Zealand team. After more than a year of his absence due to injuries, his comeback performance against Pakistan in December 2014 showed the world that he still has spark. An 18-year-old boy, who had started off his career as the youngest player for the New Zealand Test cricket team and served the team with full passion, he has given his best in the World Cup with 18 wickets in eight games at an economy rate of 3.98 and made the team proud. Though New Zealand did not win the Cup, they have earned the fans’ respect. SAROJ RIZWAN KHANKarachi
