Sir: The roofs of several houses collapsed due to a violent storm in Wahid Ghari, Charsadda Road, Liaqatabad, Sadiqabad and Ring Road areas in Peshawar. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), winds blew at a speed of at least 110 km/hour that caused massive devastation. The storm badly affected the power supply system and made it difficult for rescuers to save many victims. The death toll from heavy rain and storm in Peshawar rose to 44 while more than 200 people were wounded. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar and district headquarter hospitals of Charsadda and Nowshera. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is in London, made a telephonic contact with the Chairman National Disaster Management Authority and directed him to expedite rescue activities in the rain-affected areas of Peshawar. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak directed the management of hospitals to provide proper healthcare to all the injured people. In this situation, we should stand by the people of Peshawar. I request the government and citizens of other provinces that they should extend all-out help to those persons who have been hit by this natural calamity. RANA HASSANKarachi
