Sir: The Sindh government has brought back police officers of its own choice irrespective of their suitability — putting the ongoing operation in Karachi in jeopardy. It is very strange that the Chief Minister (CM) decided to bring changes when the operation had entered its third phase. In a city where the police is fully politicised, we are back to square one without deriving any benefits from the operation. The timing is wrong; the reshuffling of police officers is not in the interest of the people of Karachi, it is a death blow to the ongoing operation. The DG Rangers has already expressed his reservations and with the latest salvo by the CM to replace the city police chief, the situation may get worse and out of control. The government cannot leave people at the mercy of miscreants and target killers. It is time the federal government intervened in the larger interest of the country’s security and exercised its constitutional options before it is too late. Mukhtar Ahmed Karachi
