Sir: Like in other parts of the country, those who had the opportunity to listen to the televised speech of self-exiled MQM Chief Altaf Hussein here in Islamabad, commented about it like this: “The whole speech was negative”. From the MQM chief’s speech it appears that he has learned nothing about the poison of hatred, fomenting division and intolerance, bigotry and xenophobia. He has only switched targets, and for the most selfish of reasons. We believe that all those who are deeply repulsed by the MQM chief’s actions, and the politics of hate and ethnocentrism that he represents, should stand together to say ‘never again’. We are united in our condemnation of racism, ethnocentrism and fascism, and strongly condemn those parties that are attempting to make political capital by echoing the far right’s dangerous anti-state, anti-Pakistan and anti-Sindh rhetoric. The entire country, particularly Sindh province, has been protesting over the hate speech and politics of Altaf Hussain. The Sindhi people and the Sindhi intelligentsia, among others, cannot be silent over the exaggeration, out right lies and claims based on the hate politics of Altaf Hussian. Such is Altaf Hussain’s ethnic politics, where the truth is told as lies and the lies are told as truth. Indeed, uncivil political statements are not the best way to accomplish anything in politics.
