Sir: The land mafia has become active along the Sunehra beach, which is a public place located about 30 kilometres away from Karachi city. It is a scenic public beach. It is not only a place for beachgoers and picnickers but also a harbour of the Manjar Goth, Deh Mann, Deh Allah Bano and Mubarak Village. Local fishermen have expressed their concern over the land mafia’s activities along the Sunehra beach. According to the fishermen, the land mafia has grabbed a vast area of the beach, where they have illegally erected gates and constructed walls. The land mafia has stationed its private guards along the beach. The private guards are also charging fees to beachgoers and local fishermen. According to revenue laws, a beach is a public place, which cannot be allotted to a private party for commercial purposes. The Sindh government should conduct an inquiry to prove the allotment of the beach to a private party for commercial purposes. SARFRAZ HAROONKarachi
