Sir: During the admission process at Karachi University, I was completely ignorant to the information that the university detains the original certificates/documents. It was when the administration ‘stapled’ my original Cambridge A-level certificate along with the form and other documents that I felt how upsetting can tampering be. What is the logic behind detaining the genuine documents instead of the photocopies that are attested? KU, being a public institute with all its pride and might, has their own set of rules and regulations that plays a crucial part in infuriating the students instead of facilitating them. The administration ought to roll out changes in the policies or they should provide a written proof in order to minimize the insecurity students feel. Moreover, the university is liable to demonstrate no clemency in safeguarding the certificates that they detain; because alumni of Karachi university have been heard being tetchy about the documents being torn and damaged by the time they get it back. I humbly request the management to look into this matter and provide assurance to the students or at least, uphold the documents with utmost care. RUMSHA SULTAN KHAN Karachi
