Sir: Malir Halt and Malir 15 are amongst the busiest routes of Karachi. Travelling on these has become a nightmare lately because of road building undertaken without prior planning. The result is that commuters remain stuck on roads for hours. Those parts of the road not being repaired are dumped with construction material. The service roads are occupied by encroachers and squatters. To make matters worse, traffic police is usually absent. I want to draw the attention of the district government development authorities to this issue. At least the illegal encroachments could be removed as early as possible to facilitate the commuters. Similarly, efforts should be made to complete road building as early as possible, the faster the better. It goes without saying that proper management and planning must be ensured before starting any such project. Aiman Ali Karachi
