Sir: It is the most shocking news for the cricket world that a young cricketer, Phillip Hughes, died in a Sydney hospital two days after being hit by a bouncer. He was struck in the head while batting in a match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He underwent surgery and was put in an induced coma but never regained consciousness. As the cricket community mourns his loss and extends its deepest sympathies to Phillip’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time, I want to draw attention to the untoward case of our young Pakistani opener Ahmed Shehzad. He suffered a fractured cheekbone after being hit by Corey Anderson’s bouncer on the second day of the cricket Test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi in more or less a similar way. This should be a warning for the Pakistani cricket team to take adequate safety measures for its domestic and international matches. NASIR-UD-DIN SOOMROHyderabad
