Sir: The Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is an accomplished media expert and is at his best in public relations matters. Like any honourable person, the chairman PCB, instead of squarely taking the responsibility for the Dhaka cricket disaster, where the Pakistani cricket team meekly surrendered the last but most vital game against the West Indian team, that too in a highly shameful manner, has now announced an internal PCB inquiry. It is a known fact that internal inquires are mostly a facade to cover up the glaring deficiencies of the senior people and to put the blame on the small fry. Moreover, no internal inquiry will have the mandate or possess the courage to fix the responsibility for the disaster on the top man of the organisation. Under the circumstances, when the entire nation wants to know the facts about the debacle of Dhaka, the cricket lovers in Pakistan expect and earnestly appeal to the Prime Minister (PM) and patron-in-chief of the PCB, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, to immediately appoint an independent inquiry commission headed by an honourable person like former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry or Justice Rana Bhagwandas to find out (in a time bound inquiry) the causes of this cricket disaster, clearly fix the responsibilities for the failure on the concerned persons, suggest penalties/punishments and also the remedial measures for the future betterment of the game and for the improved working of the PCB, (which currently is a sinking ship), as a world class professional organisation of Pakistan. The nation hopes that its cricket-loving PM will not be content with and also will not fall into the trap of the PR exercise of the chairman PCB, who has announced a cosmetic and meaningless internal PCB inquiry, with the obvious aim to hide the failures of the top PCB bosses.
