Sir: The Punjab Chief Minister’s irrational haste to complete the 425 MW Nandipur power project has resulted in a fiasco. Reportedly, the money needed to make it operational was more as compared to the budget of the project due to negligence in handling various administrative and technical matters. The most unfortunate thing is that despite unacceptable higher cost paid from taxpayers’ money, the Nandipur project is reportedly producing zero megawatt of electricity and as a result, the people are still suffering from loadshedding. It is surprising that the honorable Chief Minister of Punjab has blamed the previous government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for the fiasco of Nandipur power project by saying that the law minister of the PPP kept the file of the Nandipur power project in his drawer for two and a half years. We all know that the Nandipur power project has been executed, completed and operated under the PML-N government. So, people would be wondering over this false propaganda. I believe the PML-N won the election 2013 on the basis of its promise that it would resolve the energy crisis. The PML-N government has totally failed to deliver so far on this promise. Almost half of its present term has passed but the PML-N has not shown any sign of solving the country’s energy problem. It is time that the Nawaz government share with the public the fact sheet of its performance in the energy sector since it came into power. I think the people of Pakistan need to know the financial and operational facts of the Nandipur power project. EJAZ AHMAD Lahore
