Sir: The federal government has made the right decision by directing traders to close down markets at 8:00 pm in order to save electricity. The step will help ease the ongoing energy crisis and reduce the duration of load shedding. In most of the advanced countries, shopping malls are closed at 8:00 pm and only food and pharmacy shops remain open till late at night. The Islamabad Traders Association has held a shutterdown strike against the government’s decision. It is the government’s responsibility to protect the national interest and not the financial benefits of a few thousand shopkeepers who are notorious for evading income tax. It is the job of good leaders to lead the nation and implement policies that are in the public interest. The government’s decision to close marriage halls by 10:00 pm is also praiseworthy. I hope that the government will not bow down before greedy traders who only want to make money and have no care for the country’s problems.ENGINEER S T HUSSAINVia Email
