Sir: The doctors of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College (JPMC) and the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) went on strike last week. One child died at the NICH. Do these doctors not have their own children? Is it not strange that doctors going on strike do not consider that their strike will strike the patients? There is a large ‘factory’ of taking notices in our country on all levels of government, right from the president and the Chief Justice (CJ) of Pakistan down to the lowest level but no one has taken notice of the death of a child. Does no one in this country realise the agony of the parents who took their child for treatment and brought home his dead body? Many patients have been dying in hospitals on account of strikes and load shedding but nobody cares. In civilised countries, doctors never go on strike because they realise the agony of the patients. A few years back, doctors in the UK had some problems but they did not resort to strikes. They asked the Postal Union, which had already announced a strike, to take up their problems. Will anyone listen? ZAFARUL HAQ MEMON Karachi
