Sir: The Prime Minister (PM) has made a wise and pragmatic decision to refuse the proposed increase in the petroleum prices by OGRA. Presently the government is facing tremendous criticism from every direction with regard to inflation and financial mismanagement. Bureaucracy-sponsored Gullu Butt hysteria and similar administrative and security failures have provided the opposition enough fodder to doubt the leadership credentials of the government. Rest of the damage is being done by the emotionally charged speeches of Dr Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan. Had the PM agreed to the proposed increase, it would have angered the masses while giving the opposition another opportunity to justify its anti-government criticism. Syed Hamzah Saleem Gilani Lahore
