Sir: We are lacking any ideology worth the name to bring about social cohesion to meet the challenges that our country is currently facing from within and outside. The root cause of all our social problems including terrorism is the lack of any cohesive force that may unite our disintegrated society. Even after lapse of 68 years, we have not been able to decide whether ours is a secular country or a theocratic state or as to what place has Islam as far as affairs of the state are concerned. We have not been able to carve out a single coherent education system which is essential to give strong foundation to our society. Our education system is divided into as many parallel tiers as there are divisions in our society. Ultimately, the output of our education system is different breeds of graduates who have their own ideologies thereby adding to the disintegration of society. The sooner we reform our education system from grass root level, the better it would be for creation of peaceful, harmonious and prosperous society. TALHA HUSSAIN Karachi
