Sir: Prisoners are temporarily kept in isolation, far from society, with the purpose to make them better human beings. However, keeping them far from society does not solve the problem, unless they are given the opportunities to get educated, and learn vocational traits in prison. It gives them confidence that comes from the realization that they too can contribute constructively in society. The Europe imprisonment policy aims to prepare prisoners as good citizens so that they return as successful people to society. This is achievable with strong cooperation between prison departments and the government. Currently the Punjab government and the Punjab Sports Board have taken a big step towards giving an opportunity to the prisoners to participate in the Punjab Youth Festival, 2014. More than a thousand prisoners participated in this festival. The prisoners were never given such importance in Pakistan before. It is a commendable step taken by the Punjab government. The female prisoners were also given the chance to participate. The Punjab Youth Festival is providing equal opportunity without any discrimination of gender to everyone. Gazali Islamabad
