Sir: Another politician, this time a Member of the National Assembly, has been disqualified for holding a fake degree. Apart from the fact that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is coming in for severe criticism for not being able to conduct fair and free elections last year, the problem here appears to be much deeper. Not only does the assessment procedure of electoral candidates by the ECP come into question, the emergence of such cases also seriously challenges the morals of these people. How can these politicians, who vow to serve the nation, deem it moral to come into power by using fake degrees? As far as the issue of institutional inefficiency is concerned, not only should the ECP be more vigilant about these things, the respective parties too should scrutinise the credentials of every candidate before issuing them party tickets.ZAHID KHANMultan
