Sir: It is very sad to learn that the Karachi Rangers have once again killed a man who was not a criminal. While he was not doing the right thing beating his wife in public, he still did not deserve to be killed. Just a few months ago Rangers killed a taxi driver along with his son and now this. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their dear ones because of the wrong actions of the Rangers. The Rangers should be put in their proper place. They are trained to be protectors of the borders to see to it that there is no smuggling and no spying. If there is a grave danger, they are supposed to report to the armed forces to tackle the danger. They are certainly not trained to bring law and order to the cities. Therefore they are out of place. The police are the ones who are supposed to be trained to take care of the law and order situation of the country. Unfortunately the police have lost their credibility. They are involved in corruption and therefore catch the wrong people and let go the real culprits. Furthermore they are so badly equipped that they cannot control the law and order situation and have to now rely on the Rangers and the armed forces. It is high time that the police be taught to do their duty properly, not be involved in corruption, catch the right people and also get better equipment so that they can work effectively in the cities. In the meantime the army and Rangers should immediately be sent back to their barracks and do the duties that they are required to do. ABID HABIB Mirpurkhas
