Sir: Donated blood can be lifesaving for individuals who have lost blood because of accidents or surgery, as well as for people who have become severely anemic or have dangerously low platelet counts because of certain medical conditions and/or treatments. Screening measures help to maximise safety of blood donation for the donor and the recipient. Blood transfusion takes place every day worldwide. Unfortunately, in our city Turbat, proper blood screening measures are not being adopted during the transfusion of blood at public hospitals. This has been going on unchecked due to non-availability of trained technicians and lack of facilities at hospitals. I request the concerned government departments to pay attention to this issue and take steps for the safe transfusion of blood to patients and injured persons. LUCKY USMAN Kech
