Sir: It seems that issues such as plummeting literacy rates, child labour, increasing petrol, gas and electricity crises, crippling local traditionsn etcn are of only minor significance. The deadly and barbaric attacks carried out by extremists across the country are the biggest threat Pakistan faces today. The attack on an Imambargah (a place for religious congregation) that killed and injured dozens of people calls for an immediate action against this growing menace. Reports mentioned that survivors and bystanders in the area expressed their anger at the inadequate security measures existing at the time of the blast. However it is also important to understand that along with improved security, we need to alter the extremist mindset within us. We need to curtail ideas where we either blame such incidents on other countries or exercise the self-proclaimed right of placing different religious communities in a hierarchical order. Those in majority even go to the lengths of criticising other people’s religious practices. Such mentality is not instigated by religious inclinations but it is a form of ‘genocide’. In the end we are all human beings and answerable to your and my One and Only Allah! BARRISTER MOBEEN SHAH UK
