Sir: The immensely popular Blackberry company will be cancelling its services in Pakistan after a long run of many years. This is a sad revelation as I am a dedicated Blackberry user and have resisted the allure of other, more modern mobile devices. However, the reason for Blackberry’s departure is even sadder: the company has refused to give up its protection of user privacy, which is something that our authorities deem necessary in the current security climate. Pakistan’s precarious situation in the security set up has prevented it from being a part of the global arena. First it was YouTube and now it is Blackberry. One feels extremely sad to ses how far back we are going when other nations are progressing at light speed. FARIS HANIF Lahore
