Sir: The federal government has decided to impose a tax on the rental sector in the upcoming budget. According to FBR data, there are 1.5 million shops in the country from which monthly tax received can be Rs 1,000 and Rs 7,500 on an area basis. Due to this action of the federal government, Rs 50 billion will come into the national exchequer every year. But in our country the fallout of all types of taxes is on the people. The government imposes a tax on the owner of a shop, the owner increases their rent of the shop; the tenant will increase the proceeds of essentials. This way at the end the poor consumer will pay this tax in the form of price hike of different items. In order to increase revenue, taxes are the best source, but it should be insured that total tax collected will be spent for welfare purposes. Ali Asghar Peshawar
