Sir: There is no denying the fact that education is the backbone in the development of any nation. Countries that have an effective system of education also happen to be the leaders of the world, both socially and economically. Unfortunately, our education system did not preserve our norms. It is education that can turn the population of any country from a burden to a human resource.
We have a very divisive education system which has created a huge gap within the nation and penetrated deeply into our culture. Thus different tiers have been created in our system over a period of 60 years to facilitate the hold of the elite over the governance of our nation. Some urgent steps are needed to improve the education system of Pakistan. These include the uniformity of the whole system, declaring an education emergency, facilitating teachers, introducing scholarship programmes, formation of book banks, free and compulsory primary education, etc.
