ISLAMABAD: Under the National Action Plan, the law enforcement agencies have started collecting data on clerics in the capital to reduce religious extremism. According to reports, the objective of the survey is to collect the details of clerics and imams who are teaching. During the survey, computerised national identity card numbers (CNIC) and contact numbers of clerics was being collected. Besides this, which organisation or religious group provides funds for the salaries, boarding of clerics would also be investigated. Sources said that officials of the law enforcement agencies would conduct the survey within few days. It is worth-mentioning here that the object of current survey was to collect details of those imams and prayer leaders of mosques and imambarghas of the capital, who were teaching there, and to identify the territory, sect and background of imams and the organisation supporting them financially. Police and Rangers would assist the survey teams while conducting the survey. Imposters held: Islamabad police nabbed two criminals pretending to be policemen among 20 accused and recovered cash, weapons and wine from them, a police spokesman said. He said that Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sajid Kiani has assigned the task to Saddar Zone Superintendent of Police (SP) Rizwan Umer Gondal to ensure arrest of those involved in looting people. These teams headed by Karachi Company Station House Officer Rana Mubarak Ali succeeded to bust a gang involved in looting people portraying themselves as police officials. Police also recovered cash from the criminals of this gang who have been identified as Jamal and Jasam Arif, the residents of Karachi. During the initial interrogation, they confessed their involvement in snatching cash from people in various areas. Further investigation is underway from them. Meanwhile, the Kohsar police arrested accused Shohaib and recovered a dagger from him. Police team also arrested Kashif and recovered one wine bottle from him. In a separate incident the Margalla police arrested accuse Muhammad Ali and recovered one 9mm pistol along with 30 bullets from him, while the Khana police arrested accuse Mohsin khan and recovered wine from him. Nilor police arrested four persons Zulfqar, Ataur Rehman, Muhammad Shams Alam and Alif Bin Naiz involved in filling cylinders illegally. Koral police arrested accuse Ahmed Baksh and recovered one 30-bore pistol along with ammunition from him. Cases have been registered against the accused and investigation is underway. Furthermore, the police teams arrested seven professional beggars from various area of the city. The SSP said the purpose of this vigilance is to ensure foolproof security in the city and he further directed all SHOs to continue it. He has also appealed the citizens to remain vigilant and inform police in case of any suspicious activity around them.
