‘Mime Art and Puppetry’ exhibits students’ talent at NUML

ISLAMABAD: An art exhibition titled “Mime Art and Puppetry” was arranged by the Department of Mass Communication in the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) to provide the students an opportunity to showcase their unexplored talents.The exhibition was arranged as an effort to promote the blend of local and modern western art, namely puppetry and mime art. A wide range of art work, including drawings in pastel and charcoal, leather, oil paintings, and posters, were displayed by the young student. While a thought-provoking documentary “Puppet Never Dies” and heart-touching mime performance by a student received applause from visitors comprising students, faculty members, heads, and deans of the different departments of the university.They appreciated the blend of traditional and modern art in which the student painters and artists, through the use of different media, projected the history, development and decline of mime art and puppetry. The students projected mime art and puppetry as an art once known to be a great source of entertainment and information for young and elderly people alike. The beautiful mime performance by Sohail Chaudhry was an encouraging initiative by any student to promote and create awareness about the dying art. Speaking on the occasion, event coordinator Amna Zulfiqar said that the exhibition is a project for the students of digital art and graphic designing in their final semester and it provides them an opportunity to exhibit and market what they have learnt during the studies and find ways to implement it. “This is also a way to lend our hands to create awareness about the world’s declining languages, art, culture and traditions through such exhibitions,” she added.A student, Muneeba Mazhar, said that this was a debut attempt by amateur students including Adnan, Javeria, Muhammad Haris, Saeeda Marium, Maria Niaz, herself and many others who contributed their artworks for the exhibition and this platform has added into their confidence and interest to seek for excellence in their skills.The art exhibition was inaugurated by NUML rector Masood Hasan. He appreciated the students for their performances and artwork which was full of aesthetic and artistic appeal. Director General Brig Azam Jamal, Mass Communication Department Head Mufti Jameelud Din and many others also visited the exhibition and appreciated the students for their efforts.
