2,500 personnel to perform security duties during Ramazan

ISLAMABAD: Around 2,500 personnel including policemen, and security guards would perform security duties during the holy month of Ramazan, and to ensure elaborate arrangements in coordination with the notables in various areas.According to the plan chalked out, following directions of Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan, the head of Islamabad police IG Aftab Ahmed Cheema and his team, including Islamabad SSp Muhammad Ali Nekokara has devised an elaborate security plan for the holy month of Ramazan. As per plan, 2,500 security personnel would perform special duties at 720 Masajids and 39 imambargahs. Police officials and security guards would be deployed for the security of worship places in the city during the holy month of Ramazan. These security arrangements shall be supervised by five SPs while the SHO's would conduct security checking during the Namaz timings.Special police strength has been called from the Police Line headquarters and provided to various police stations with the purpose to ensure effective security duties at worship places and markets. The police stations have been directed to coordinate with the office bearers of traders unions in their respective areas to ensure effective security along with security guards. Food would be provided to the policemen performing duties at police pickets during Sehri and Iftari timings. Special drive against the professional beggars would be launched and they would not be allowed to gather outside the worship places. The mosque committees are also being advised to not allow any stranger or outsider for stay in worship places.The police officials have also been directed to carry out special checking of hotels, motels, and guest houses for security purposes. Islamabad SSP Muhammad Ali Nekokara has directed all the participants to ensure compliance of these security arrangements during the month of Ramazan. Only one gate of the worship place would be kept open during the holy month of Ramazan. The mosque committees would conduct checking through metal detectors and would also deploy private security guards for this purpose. Meanwhile, the property dealers are also being directed to furnish the record of tenants to the SHOs of their respective areas. Moreover, checking at the exit and entry points may be intensified without causing any hassle to the citizens.All the SDPOs and SHO s are directed to personally supervise the security arrangements during the holy month of Ramazan and ensure the deployment of police officials or private security guards where it is necessary, and in this regard, no laxity shall be tolerated. AIG (Operation) Sultan Azam Temuri has directed the police officials to brief the policemen deputed for security purpose and maintain high vigilance. He has also ordered for strict security at all the entry and exit points of the city and to keep strict monitoring of those coming in the city or leaving it. He has also asked all Station House Officers (SHOs) to brief the people in their areas regarding proper locking of their houses during prayers and keeping the lights on at all times necessary. The IGP has also categorically directed that no laxity would be tolerated by any official in performing of their duties. He has also asked the police officials to work devotedly during this month as they have the prime responsibility to provide security to all the citizens of the capital.
