Eighth anniversary of department :  ITP says it espouses people-friendly,  anti-corruption policy

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has achieved all the targets set on the day of its inception on January 28, 2006, said AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri at a ceremony held on Tuesday in connection with the 8th anniversary of ITP.
Temuri said ITP has succeeded in cultivating the image of a friendly and disciplined police force besides eliminating VIP culture and adopting zero tolerance policy against the lawbreakers. He said that at present, ITP is a corruption-free, people-friendly and service-oriented organisation. “Provision of free help to the road users is ITP’s priority and it is really a great honour for the force that its working policies are being replicated by the other law enforcement agencies and police department,” Temuri said.
SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob Ahmed, DSP (Traffic) Khalid Nadeem, Programme Manager Ayesha Jameel, senior police officials, representatives of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, students of educational institutions and citizens attended the colourful ceremony at Kalsoom Plaza Chowk. 
The students and police officials distributed flowers and gifts among the citizens. The AIG (Operations) expressed his satisfaction over the performance of ITP and said the force has succeeded in ensuring safe road environment in the city within a very short span of time and accident ratio has significantly decreased in the last few years.
Temuri said that elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are the operational codes of the ITP, while excellent planning and strategy regarding traffic management helped reduce the ratio of fatal and non-fatal road accidents in the previous years. He said that ITP is doing its best for safer road environment in the capital and has involved community in its affairs. Its teams are visiting educational institutions to create traffic sense. Several students have joined ITP as traffic volunteers, he said.
The officer said the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has declared the Islamabad Traffic Police as ISO 9001 certified after conducting a concrete audit of ITP processes and systems. 
He said that ITP FM radio channel 92.4 is creating awareness among the people and is a source of real-time information for road users, thus streamlining traffic flow. Sultan Azam Temuri said ITP established a modern driving licence system and is providing better facilities to the applicants.“To control the traffic accidents, theory test for obtaining driving licence and touchscreen system has been introduced,” he told media persons. Meanwhile, SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob said that the image of ITP would be maintained and no compromise would be made on performance. “Help, Service and Equal application of law are the operational codes of ITP and would be followed in true letter and spirit,” the SSP maintained.
