— to develop its volunteer force to promote social services

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will develop a volunteer force out of its 1.4 million students to help the government to promote social services, educate out-of-school students and to work for mitigating the sufferings of the people at the time of natural disaster. The force will be developed in cooperation with the volunteer organizations, NGOs and other relevant government departments, this was stated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi while addressing a award-giving ceremony held here. The awards were given to those students who made extra-ordinary performance in promoting national cause. The vice-chancellor further said that the volunteer force will comprise about thousands students whose services will be made available for serving the society, particularly in education and health fields. Such students will be paid a reasonable amount for their services on monthly basis under Earn-to-learn Scheme recently launched by the university.
