Islamabad: Embassy of Netherlands in collaboration will Shell Pakistan organised an exhibition displaying the works of award-winning artist Nazia Khan at the Khaas Art Gallery.
The exhibition, titled “The Weight of Wings”, features a collection of 40 black and white artworks of the Karachi-based artist. It was inaugurated by the ambassador himself. In his welcome speech Ambassador Marcel de Vink thanked the audience for attending and also Khaas Art Gallery which, he said, made this event possible in such a short notice, as the venue was changed from PNCA to Khaas Gallery two days prior to the date.
The ambassador appreciated the efforts made by the Nazia Khan’s team in travelling all the way from Karachi. “This event is also to celebrate the art and achievements of Nazia Khan here in Islamabad,” said the envoy. “Nazia Khan has received Prince Claus award last month in Karachi that is linked to the Dutch royal family. The fund believes that art is a basic need and an important driver to development. Annually this Fund grants award to individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements in the field of culture and development,” he added.
The ambassador also mentioned the poetic way in the art and work that evokes all sorts of sentiments and feelings. “This is something really strong which conveys a feeling of the space,” he said. Nazia Khan’s work focuses on crucial contradiction of Pakistani society and also includes studies regarding gender. Ambassador Vink concluded by thanking the audience again. The exhibition was very well attended by the art lovers, diplomats and media. It is open for next five days .
