Rs 35 million approved for BBH renovation

RAWALPINDI: The District Health Department has approved an amount of Rs 35 million for the renovation and beautification of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), said Medical Superintendent Asif Qadir Mir. While talking to the media personnel on Wednesday, he said that the amount would be used to renovate the departments of medicine, surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, psychiatry, orthopedic surgery, urology, radiology, and cardiology. He said that the district government had acquired the land of BBH, where the emergency department is located for the metro bus project. “Now, the emergency department would be set up at an alternate site for which the provincial government has allocated Rs 60 million and the construction work would start shortly,” he said. He further added that the CT-scan facility, which was out-of-order for the last two-and-a-half years, would be installed with a new machine costing Rs 55 million. Due to the non-availability of the facility, a large number of patients were compelled to visit private hospitals and clinics, which charged heavily, he added. Private laboratories, hospitals, and clinics charge up to Rs 9,000 and 12,000 for plain and contrast CT-scans respectively. While, it is available at the government hospitals in Rs 1,600 and Rs 2,800 for the same. “The new machine would be installed in the new emergency building being constructed in the hospital,” he maintained.
