Islamabad: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) on Wednesday arranged ‘Road Safety and Awareness Motorcycle Rally’ to apprise people of the importance of using a helmet.
The rally started from the motorway toll plaza and ended at the Fatima Jinnah Park. It aimed at inculcating the importance and the use of safety helmets while riding motorcycles.
Motorway Police IG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema was the chief guest of the event while DIG Muhammad Zubair Hashmi and SSP Mian Saeed Khan led the rally.
A large number of students and teachers from different colleges of Rawalpindi and Islamabad along with the members of civil society and media participated in the rally.
Talking to the participants, NH&MP DIG said that the purpose of this event was to sensitise the general public and students about the use and importance of safety helmets. DIG Hashmi further added that the youngsters mostly do not wear helmets while riding motorbikes and lose their lives in accidents.
Hashmi said that in 80% of the cases, youngsters can save their lives if they wear safety helmets.
He said that this rally would help to sensitise road users regarding the use of helmet. He further added that NH&MP would arrange more road safety events to inculcate a better road safety sense amongst the drivers.
He said that the use of helmet is a guarantee of a safe journey on motorbikes and this rally will not only inculcate sense of using safety helmet amongst the participants but will also help to minimise the death ratio in accidents.
