Police arrest 29 outlaws; recover illegal arms, drugs

RAWALPINDI: In a drive against the anti-social elements on Thursday, the police arrested 29 accused from different localities and recovered illegal arms and drugs from their possession.According to sources, the police seized 5,067 grammes of charas, 24 bottles and 138 litres of liquor, and eight 30-bore pistols. The Ratta Amral, Banni, New Town, Sadqabad, RA Bazaar, Civil Lines, and Rawat police apprehended several accused for carrying drugs. While the Ratta Amral, Waris Khan, Sadiqbad, Race Course, Cvil Lines, Gujjar Khan, and Kahuta police held 12 accused and recovered liquor from their possession. On the other hand, the police arrested eight accused from different localities of Waris Khan, Banni, Civil Lines, Jatli, and Kallar Syedan for carrying illegal arms and ammunition. The police have registered cases under relevant sections against the arrested and further investigation is underway.Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Islamabad police have arrested two bootleggers from different areas of the city and recovered 263 bottles of wine from their possession, a police spokesperson said on Thursday. Following the directions of Islamabad SSP Muhammad Ali Nekokara, the Islamabad police is maintaining high vigilance and conducting regular checking in various areas of the city, including entry as well the exit points. Special team constituted by SP (Investigation) Jameel Ahmed Hashmi and DSP Hassan Raza Shah, including ASI Tipu Sultan, and other officials are assigned with special duty for effective checking of suspects and suspected vehicles. According to reports, the team apprehended a car near Ghori Town and arrested a man, besides recovering 123 bottles of wine from the vehicle. Likewise, a sub-inspector stopped a car during patrolling at `Bani Gala Chowk' and arrested an accused, besides recovering 132 bottles of wine from his possession. Cases have been registered against both the bootleggers at the respective police stations and further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, the Margalla and Secretariat police arrested three accused and recovered a total of eight wine bottles from their possession. While reviewing the performance, the Islamabad SSP appreciated the police officials and further directed them to ensure measures for effective policing.
