Countermeasures regarding dengue on Eid vacations reviewed


RAWALPINDI: The district administration has reviewed the anti-dengue and larvae identification plan during the Eid vacations.The officials of the government departments would remain vigilant to mark all expected breeding spots and in case of any emergency, the relevant departments would initiate prompt action to overcome the situation. District Coordination Officer Sajad Zafar Dal chaired the meeting on Saturday. The officers of the district administration and other government departments attended the meeting. The performance of all the departments, with regard to larvae identification was reviewed in detail and the officers concerned gave presentations of their activities being carried out to identify larvae. Zafar said that some larvae positive cases have drawn the attention of the departments concerned and the authorities concerned are focused on carrying out preventive activities.He said that it is the obligation of all citizens to check their water storage tanks, refrigerator waist trays, and air coolers, which could become breeding spots for the larvae. He directed government departments concerned to concentrate on the practical measures and involve community heads for the identification of larvae, which could become epidemics due to negligence and irresponsible behavior of the citizens. Moreover, he added to portray the individual weekly performance of the officials, with reference to dengue control as indicated in the SOP’s for each department. The water flow in Nullah Lai and other big and small nullas of the city was also reviewed on the occasion. The officers of WASA, Solid Waste Management Company, and Rawal Town briefed about the measures adopted to protect the lives and properties of the citizens during the torrential rains and floods. It was informed that a control room has been established in the WASA, which would work round the clock, despite of Eid holidays. Heads of the government departments gave presentation of their activities on the occasion and highlighted the salient features of their anti-dengue programmes. The DCO appreciated the work and achievements of the officers and departments concerned. He also asked to associate volunteers and officials of the Social Welfare Department for social mobilisation and larvae identification.
