Exhibition on Islamic calligraphy starts at Lok Virsa

ISLAMABAD: An exhibition featuring a total of hundred pieces of Islamic calligraphy by eminent calligraphists started here on Friday at Lok Virsa.The work of calligraphists whose masterpieces have been displayed in the exhibition include Azeem Iqbal, Khawaja Muhammad Hussain, Imran Tahir, Younas Roomi, Syeda Aysha Bukhari and Sara Azeem. The exhibition was inaugurated by Executive Director Lok Virsa, Shahera Shahid at Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology, popularly known as Heritage Museum. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Shahid said, “Lok Virsa is a specialized institution dealing with research, collection, documentation, preservation and dissemination of Pakistan’s traditional culture. Since its inception in 1974, this institution has made landmark achievements in the field of culture not only at home but also abroad, she added. The ED Lok Virsa highlighted that “Pakistan has a rich historic background of beautiful calligraphic traditions, which needs to be projected more”. Lok Virsa has already established a 3-dimensional cultural display on calligraphy at Heritage Museum focusing on its historical growth over the years, she further said. She praised the work of calligraphists and congratulated them for putting up such a fine display and said that due to the current unfortunate wave of extremism and war against terrorism, cultural activities like this exhibition can play a vital role in educating the masses about our indigenous heritage. The exhibition will continue till July, 28 at Lok Virsa Heritage Museum, Shakaparian, from 10.00 4.00 pm.
