Gang supplying narcotics toeducational institutes busted

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has busted a criminal gang supplying heroin to boys and girls of prominent schools and colleges in Islamabad.ANF’s Commander Brig Ramzan Gill briefed the media personnel on Friday, informing it that the network was led by a person named Idrees who was arrested on Thursday. “The gang was supplying drugs to kids as young as 10 year old in prestigious educational institutions of the capital,” he added.The gang even induced many boys and girls and was supplying heroin in schools and colleges of posh areas of the city. The ANF officials produced before the media the ring leader, his co-accused and heroin recovered from their possession. It was told that when Idrees was arrested, his cell phone was constantly ringing getting calls from kids asking for drugs. “The ANF would provide medical treatment to the boys and girls who were taking heroin from this network,” Gill said. He said that the names of the educational institutions where the drug pushers were supplying heroin would not be revealed. He said that during the crackdown in April against the drug pushers, 53 kilogrammes of heroin and 39 kg of hash were seized and 15 accused were arrested in several operations in the region. He said that the operations succeeded because of the cooperation extended by the people, adding that in some cases, courier companies gave tip-offs about the transport of drugs.Giving the details of the operations, he said that on April 1, the ANF recovered about 750 grammes of heroin soaked in bedsheets which were sent in packing through a courier company. On April 3, 9.5 kg of heroin and 14 kg of heroin each was recovered from two passengers that were to board international flights. On April 4, 1.75 kg of heroin was recovered from a passenger who came to airport to take a flight to Manchester. On April 10, three kilogrammes of hash was seized from a drug supplier in the area of Kohinoor in Rawalpindi. About one kilogramme of heroin destined for Hungary and 3.5 kilogrammes of heroin bound for another international flight were seized on April 12. He added that about 2.5 kilogrammes of hash was seized at the Mandi More Stop in Islamabad. On April 15, in another operation, a big consignment of 15 kilogrammes of heroin was captured, while on April 18, 1.5 kilogrammes of heroin tactfully concealed in fake cavities of kitchen utensils and sent through a courier company was seized.Meanwhile, on April 22, an attempt to smuggle eight kilogrammes of heroin concealed in wooden stools was foiled while on April 23, another big cache of 22.5 kilogrammes of hash being taken to Punjab was captured at Burhan Exchange, Motorway. On April 23, the ANF seized eight kilogrammes of heroin which was being smuggled to Gilgit-Baltistan. On April 24, the ANF seized 3 kilogrammes of hash that was being smuggled to Gilgit-Baltistan and 5.5 kilogrammes of heroin from a person at the Islamabad airport lounge. Gill added that the ANF would launch a campaign and hold walks to raise awareness among the people about the effects of drug use.
