Traffic police educate 7,000 motorcyclists on safety rules

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police (CTP) in its ongoing weeklong awareness campaign have so far educated around 7,000 motorcyclists on safety measures to avoid accidents. Talking to APP, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Shoaib Khurram Janbaz said the campaign titled “Traffic Week”, started on May 21, was successfully continuing in all Tehsils of Rawalpindi including the city. Under the drive, he said, motorcyclists were being educated to follow preventive measures like avoiding one-wheeling, over-speeding and overloading, using proper signals while over-taking and taking turn, appropriate gear and brake usage besides wearing helmet for their own safety, a major cause of head injuries often resulting in death or disability of the rider. “CTP is committed to protecting lives of road-users. Motorists must follow traffic rules as a minor mistake can prove fatal and cause irreparable loss,” he told APP. In civilised societies, he said, good habits were developed to protect rights of others by following prescribed rules.
