IBA adopts resolution to protect constitution

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Bar Association on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution to protect the democracy and constitution besides resisting any ultra-constitutional step to derail the democracy. The resolution was presented by the founding president of the IBA Muhammad Ashraf Gujjar before the general body meeting of the Association that was adopted unanimously.Addressing the gathering, Ashraf Gujjar said likewise the lawyers from across the country, those from Islamabad would also never let succeed in any nefarious design to abrogate the constitution and derail democracy. He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan raised allegations of polls rigging and himself gave a judgment to prove these without pursuing the petitions filed by PTI’s candidates before the election tribunals. He alleged that by demanding a technocrats’ government and announcing civil disobedience move, Imran Khan was trying to create anarchy and instability in the country to execute the agenda of some anti-state elements.Ashraf Gujjar also asked Dr Tahirul Qadri to experiment his idea of people’s parliament in Canada instead of a poor and developing country like Pakistan.Naseer Kiani Advocate said IBA had already filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against any ultra constitutional step.He said the legal fraternity would allow no one to violate the constitution and wrap up the democratic system of the country.
