Community policing: capital police to interact with citizens in each sector


ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police will arrange interactions with citizens in each sector to promote community policing and inculcate friendly police ecology in the capital.This was stated by AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri while addressing an ‘open court’ at Golra Police Station. The AIG (operations) said that all sub-divisional police officers and station house officers had been directed to hold meetings with community members and enhance liaison with them for effective policing. He listened to the problems of the people and issued directions to immediately solve them so that the public could trust the police and the culture of friendly policing be ensured as per prime objective of the Islamabad police. DSP (Saddar) Arshad Chaudhry, Golra Police Station SHO Sajjad Bukhari, former MNA Anjum Aqeel, Citizens Coordination Committee Chief Coordinator Muhammad Aslam Khokhar, representatives of traders union, community members and notables were also present on the occasion. Temuri said that the Islamabad police were taking every possible step to maintain peace in the city, and that the force required the cooperation of citizens as well as traders to ensure foolproof security at markets and other places. He said that public cooperation was vital for effective policing. “Crime can be controlled through involving community in policing affairs fairly.” Temuri also asked the members of the coordination committee to help police resolve petty disputes and also point out cops involved in sluggish policing or violating human rights. He urged the citizens to check activities of the people in their surroundings and inform the police in case they observed any suspects.He said that effective policing was only possible through cooperation of public and trust between them would be ensured through resolving their problems at their doorsteps. He said that citizens coordination committees had been set up to resolve public problems, which were functioning very successfully.The AIG also highlighted the sacrifices of policemen in line of duty and said that all efforts would be made to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. He also informed the gathering about several steps, including safe home and car scheme, survey of various localities and important buildings and setting up model reporting rooms at police stations. Anjum Aqeel and Muhammad Aslam Khokhar appreciated the Islamabad police for taking measures towards friendly policing and assured their full support in this regard.
