FJWU women week concludes

RAWALPINDI: The annual women week at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) concluded on Saturday. The third day of the women week at the university began with bait bazi (poetry competition). All the teams completely immersed themselves into the world of Ghalib, Iqbal, Faiz and other renowned poets of Urdu language. They entertained the audience with their deep and comic poetic phrases. Poet and peace activist Riaz Ahmed Shad was the chief guest, while the judges for the event included renowned poets like Arif Farhad, Dur-e-Shahwar and Shamim Zaidi. The first position was won by Hamza Tarar and Zeeshan Cheema from the Punjab University. Maria Farman and Shafaq Jabeen of Sargodha University got the second position, while Zeeshan Khaliq and Umm-e-Hani from the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, bagged the third position. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that it was an honor to be at FJWU and appreciated the students’ selection of verses. Giving away prizes to the winners, he encouraged the participants to move forward with the same enthusiasm and confidence in their professional lives. A photography competition was also part of the women week activities. The theme for the photography competition was ‘Kirdar Ka Ghazi’. The photographs taken by the students explored the theme from myriad angles and captured the essence of the theme with ease. Nasir Malik was the chief guest of the photography and flower arrangement competitions, while Khola Atif, Asma Akhter and Afshan Jamal judged the photography competition. Sikandar Hayat of the Punjab University won the first position in the photography completion, while the host university secured the second and third positions. The chief guest appreciated the efforts of the participants and awarded shields to the judges and prizes to the winners. A flower arrangement competition was also held in which both male and female students exhibited their talents. The event was divided into two categories. For the fresh flower arrangement, the theme was ‘Flower of Hope’, while the theme for dry flower arrangement was ‘Gilded History’. The judges for the event were Anwar Jahan Ansari, Asma Ansari and Shazia Hashmat. In the fresh flower arrangement competition, the first and the second positions were won by the students of the FJWU, while Saqib Ali from Karakorum University got the third position.
