6,000 cops guard city on Qadri’s arrival

RAWALPINDI: For the arrival of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri at the Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport (BBIIA), 6,000 policemen were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.While talking to the media personnel, police spokesperson Raja Fayyaz said that all the arrangements have been completed to provide security and no one would be allowed to disrupt the atmosphere. PAT claimed that all the roads leading to BBIIAP have been blocked by placing containers, dumpers, trucks, and barbwires in a bid to stop the PAT workers coming from different parts to welcome their leader. Heavy contingent of police have been deputed in and around the airport to avoid any untoward incident. Qadri would be reaching the BBIIAP at 7:30am today (Monday) from Dubai. After the arrival, he is scheduled to move to Lahore in a rally. However, domestic and international passengers would be allowed to go to the airport on showing their boarding cards and other relevant documents through a shuttle service provided by the City Traffic Police (CTP). Extraordinary security arrangements on the arrival of Qadri have created a lot of trouble for the citizens, said a traveller, Nadeem at the Benazir Bhutto Airport.Meanwhile, on the other hand, Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed said on Sunday that the security of all the sensitive installations has been beefed-up in the city. While talking to the media personnel, the commissioner said that the security of all the sensitive installations, including Benazir Bhutto Airport, Chaklala Air Base, Adiala Jail, and other important places has been tightened to avoid any untoward incident. He said that the personnel of the Quick Response Force (QRF) and Elite Force are being deployed around these sensitive installations. The commissioner added that all the available resources are being utilised to enhance the security arrangements. He said that no one would be allowed to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere and strict action would be taken against the perpetrators and violators. He said that the terrorists would be defeated, adding that their nefarious designs would be foiled and said that the nation stands with the Pakistan Army on the operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb; launched in North Wazirstan.
