ISLAMABAD: Four armed men robbed Rs 1 million from a fruit trader in broad daylight on Tuesday in the Sabzi Mandi in sector I-11 of Islamabad.
According to police, a group of four robbers entered the Sabzi Mandi at 11:00 am. They held hostage security guards and other staff on gunpoint and looted Rs 1 million. The criminals also took away weapons of the security guards, in an operation that lasted for only four minutes.
This is the 11th robbery during this month in the Sabzi Mandi, while police have failed to hunt down even a single incident.
The victim fruit traders, Akbar Hussain and Shahid, demanded Interior Minister Ch Nisar live up to his claims and check the increasing crime rate in the capital. They also demanded that elements within the police department who are either indifferent to the increasing crime situation or are directly involved in heinous practices be brought to justice.
The residents of sector G10/4 and I-8/2 are also facing the increase in crime rate. The residents of these sectors believe that the criminal elements are residing in slum areas near G-10/4 nullah and in Faizabad near I-8/2.
