Tailors double charges as orders keep coming in

ISLAMABAD: After verbal refusal for not accepting more clothes for stitching, the tailors of the twin cities have placed boards of ‘No More Booking’, leaving no option for the belated customers except buying readymade suites. The holy month of Ramazan is heading towards the festivity of Eid and the tailors are manoeuvring the situation and have stopped booking more orders, besides raising charges from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per suite for urgent deliveries. Anila Qaiser, a college student, while talking to the media personnel said that last year the average rate for the stitching of a simple suit was Rs 600 but this year no tailor was accepting for less than Rs 800. These rates varied from Rs 1,000 to 1,500 on account of designing. She complained, “There is no mechanism to monitor the rates and the charges are forced by the tailors on their own.”Salma Noor, a lecturer at a government college, remarked that she could not book her stitching in time and was excused to accept for overburdened orders. But on offering extra money, she was not only accommodated but was also ensured timely delivery. “These are the tactics of the tailors to charge extra money from the people,” she added.A tailor, Ayub Khalid was of the opinion that the wedding season had also started and they were already occupied with orders, so it was not possible to take further orders, as they would not be able to deliver in time. “Load shedding has also reduced the production, so I have hired extra staff to complete the orders in time, but people do not consider our problems,” he said.
