ASEAN Food Festival draws huge crowd


ISLAMABAD: The ASEAN Food Festival was celebrated at the Indonesian Embassy on Sunday. The event featured savoury meals, colourful cultural performances, melodic music and impressive display of arts & crafts.It was organised by the ASEAN Islamabad Committee (AIC) and the Indonesian Embassy. It was a non-stop cultural extravaganza from the member countries of the AIC: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The Republic of Indonesia Ambassador Burhan said that the friendly ties and cooperation between the ASEAN countries and Pakistan have maintained a healthy momentum of development.“With this steady growth and the strong desire on both sides to enhance collaboration, we are now on the track to explore new opportunities of cooperation, not only in the area of trade but by introducing and sharing of the similarities of culture, arts and cuisine to learn more about each other,” he said. AIC Chairman Domingo D Lucenario said that from its inception, ASEAN set out the noble goals of accelerating economic growth, social progress, cultural development, promoting mutual assistance among member states as well as strengthening the foundation for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.He said that the festival reflects the essence of unity. He added that ASEAN highly values its ties with Pakistan and would like to see these ties to grow even stronger in the future. He praised the ASEAN community in Islamabad for putting their efforts together in making the festival a success. He also thanked the guests for coming and enjoying the food and culture of ASEAN.The chief guest on the occasion, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Additional Secretary Mohsin Razi highly commended the ASEAN missions in Islamabad on coming together with such a lively cultural event. He said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its ties with the ASEAN countries and affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further consolidating commercial, economic, social and cultural cooperation with the ASEAN region.
