Targeted operation expected to be launched in capital against terrorists

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: The government has decided to carry out a 'targeted operation' in the capital to eliminate terrorists.To wipeout sleeper cells of terrorists following the commencement of a military operation in North Waziristan, a door-to-door search operation will be launched in the city which would act on intelligence reports. A private news channel quoting sources reported on Thursday that the Rangers and police personnel would conduct the targeted operation however, the troops of the Pakistan Army would remain on standby for their support.The operation would be initiated from the suburbs of the capital. According to reports, there are some intelligence reports that militants have some strong connections in Tarnol and Bhara Kahu areas, adjacent to the city. Earlier this month, two lieutenant-colonels were killed in a suicide blast in the Tarnol area near Fateh Jhang. The initial focus of the targeted operation would be Bhara Kahu and Tarnol suburbs of the capital however the operation would encompass the entire city. InpArrested: Meanwhile, the police in its drive against anti-social elements on Thursday arrested 21 accused from different localities and recovered illegal arms and drugs from their possession.The police seized 5,480 grammes of hashish, 19 bottles of liquor, seven 30-bore pistols, a stolen motorcycle, and illegal gas decanting equipment from the accused. According to reports, the Naseerabad, RA Bazaar, Race Course, Taxila, Jatli and Murree police apprehended several accused for carrying hashish respectively. While the City, Cantt, Westridge, and Banni police held five others accused for allegedly possessing liquor.On the other hand, the police arrested seven accused from different localities of Waris Khan, Westridge, Naseerabad, RA Bazaar and Sadda Bairooni for carrying illegal arms and ammunition. The Sadiqabad police also recovered a stolen motorcycle from an accused, while the Kahuta Police, in a crackdown on illegal business of gas decanting, held four others for their alleged involvement in illegal sale of gas and diesel. The police have registered cases under relevant sections against the accused and further investigation is underway.According to reports, few unidentified miscreants stole a motorbike from the parking lot of Faisal Mosque. The first information report (FIR) has been lodged in the Margalla Police Station. Moreover, some unidentified burglars stole a van from the parking lot of Suleman Market in Sector F11/2. The FIR has been lodged in the Shalimar Police Station.In another incident, unidentified thieves stormed a house in Sector F11/4 and stole away a motorbike. The FIR has been lodged with in the Golra Police Station. Moreover, a driver of a coaster ran over a bicycle near the Sohan area on the Islamabad Expressway. Qasim who was riding the bicycle lost his life on the spot. The driver of the coaster was ale to escape. The FIR has been lodged in the Shehzad Town Police Station.
