Tight security arrangements made for Youm-e-Ali (AS)

RAWALPINDI: The police and the law enforcement agencies on Saturday beefed up the security in the city for Youm-e-Ali (AS) to be observed today (Sunday).Some 4,000 personnel, including Elite Force, ladies police, special branch personnel, and volunteers, are deployed in the city to guard 101 Majalis. Around 24 processions are to be taken out from New Town, Waris Khan, City, Civil Line, Cantt, Saddar, Kahuta, Gujar Khan, Murree, and Taxila circles. The main procession of the city would be taken out taken out from Mohanpura at 9pm, which after passing through the Kashmiri Bazaar, Fawara Chowk, Iqbal Road, Nia Mohalla, and other roads, would culminate at Col Maqbool Imambargah in the morning. Other big processions would be taken out from Darbar Sakhi Shah, Imambargah Fatmia, Markazi Imambargah Kosar-e-Zainab, and Shah Chan Chiragh Dhoke Rata today. City Police Officer (CPO) Hamyoun Bashir Tarar has issued strict orders to make foolproof security arrangements for the occasion. Under the plan, the routine traffic on the main and link roads would be diverted to other routes. The police and the security agencies personnel would accompany the processions, with some deputed, both inside and outside the Imambargahs. The police officers would patrol in different areas. Unidentified people would not be allowed to mix up with the participants of the processions. It is worth mentioning here that the intelligence agencies have declared eight districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, as sensitive with regard to Youm-e-Ali (AS) processions. The district administration has established a control room in order to closely monitor the movement of the processions to avoid any untoward incident. CTP announces alternate traffic routes on Youm-e-Ali (AS): The City Traffic Police (CTP) has set alternate traffic routes for the Youm-i-Hazrat Ali (AS) processions to be taken out on today (Sunday).The motorists have been urged to use alternative routes, as several roads in the city would be closed for traffic. There would be complete ban on parking of any vehicle or handcart on the routes of the processions and near the Imambarghas. According to the plan, the traffic would be diverted from City Saddar Road, Mochi Bazaar, City Police Station, DAV College Chowk, Alam Khan Road, Imambargah Chowk, and Committee Chowk to ensure the security of the procession that has been taken out from Mohanpura last night.According to the City Traffic Officer, enhanced number of traffic wardens, under the supervision of inspectors would perform their duties on the city roads today. Emergency squads would also be appointed to maintain the flow of traffic in the city, he added.The traffic wardens have been directed to ensure parking at the distance of 200 metres from the route of the procession and Imambarghas. The CTO directed the wardens to remove all kind of encroachments from the route of the procession, besides keeping a vigil on suspected persons and things. The citizens can call at the CTP help-line 1915 to know about the traffic situation on the roads. Police launches search operations in RA Bazaar, adjoining areas: The Rawalpindi police, on the special directive of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Hamyoun Bashir Tarar, launched a special door-to-door search operation on Friday night in the RA Bazaar and its adjoining areas in the jurisdiction of the RA Bazaar Police Station.Heavy police contingents, police commandos, and special branch personnel conducted the search operation in the area. According to a police spokesperson, the data of the residents of 51 houses, 255 persons, 36 house owners, and 15 tenants was also compiled. He informed that special search operations to net the criminals would also be launched in other areas of the city.
