ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has called off his three-day visit to Nigeria in the wake of a deadly bomb blast killing 75 people in the capital of Abuja.
This visit would have been the first by a Pakistani head of state to Africa’s biggest economy in 32 years. The president was to set off on Monday (tomorrow).
Foreign Ministry says the trip will be re-planned at mutually convenient dates.
The Nigerian media has held brewing security situation responsible for the visit cancellation, and Pakistan’s deputy high commissioner to Nigeria ‘pressing domestic commitments’.
Mamnoon was initially to travel with 70 government officials and textile tycoons on the invitation of his Nigerian contemporary, Goodluck Jonathan.
