Work on up-gradation of CDA nursery kick-starts

ISLAMABAD: On the directions of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal, work on the up-gradation plan of the CDA nursery has been initiated.The up-gradation plan includes in-house production of different species of flowering as well as fruit plants. It also includes bringing more land under cultivation, and establishment of state-of-the-art green house to save the plants from environmental severity. In this regard, the CDA member administration visited the nursery in Chak Shahzad to review the progress of the up-gradation plan. He examined the growth of different species of plants and production capability of the nursery. On this occasion, officers of the Environment Wing were also present.He was informed that the nursery was playing vital role to enhance the green cover of the capital, and growing different species of seasonal flowers including Petunia F1, Pansy F1, Zinnia F1, Mari Gold F1, and plant trees including Feedle Wood, Amaltas, Jacoranda, Kachnar, Sukh Chan, etc. Besides these, different house plants, shrubs, creepers, and ground covers are also produced in the nursery. It is catering to the needs of the seasonal flowers as well as flowering and fruit trees to be planted in the city. The member environment was further informed that the nursery meets the requirements of the indigenous flowering and fruit plants during the Spring and Monsoon tree plantation campaigns.The nursery ensures the production and growth of all kinds of plants on scientific methods to secure these plants from environmental changes, he was informed. The member environment directed the Incharge of the Nursery to ensure the production and growth of the indigenous plants, particularly the fruit plants. He said that in line with the directions of the CDA chairman, the nursery should be upgraded and be made fully functional to enhance its production capacity to meet the requirements of greenery in the city. The CDA chairman has said that the nursery covers a vast land, which should not only be restricted for particular species of plants but production capacity and growth of both the flowering and fruit plants should be enhanced, and new species be introduced.He further added that the nursery should be upgraded in line with modern scientific technology research. Such plants should be produced, which play a pivotal role for the purification of environment, he added. He said that the nursery should not only meet the requirements of tree plantation campaigns in the city but it should also meet the requirements of all kinds of plants for other institutions. He said that while growing different species of plants, the environmental conditions should be kept in mind to ensure maximum survival of the plants for an effective green cover of the capital.
