1,000,000 saplings to be planted during monsoon


ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration would separately plant 1,000,000 saplings during the current monsoon in the capital.While talking to the media personnel, a CDA spokesperson said that the tree plantation campaign would start after Eid, adding that the authority is focusing on planting the indigenous species and fruit trees, including Chir Pine, Kachnar, Amaltas, Dhreak, Jacaranda, Olive, and Jaman etc. He said that strict monitoring of the planted saplings would be carried out to ensure their maximum survival.The CDA would involve general public, educational institutions, NGOs, government employees, and traders to make this campaign a success, he said. During the campaign, 1,000,000 saplings would be planted in the urban and regional areas of the capital, including green belts, avenues, parks, and Margalla Hills National Park, he added. He said that the CDA is taking all possible steps to maintain the natural beauty of the city, in collaboration with the citizens and particularly the educational institutions.Meanwhile, Islamabad Chief Commissioner Jawad Paul has also inaugurated the monsoon tree plantation drive by planting a sapling. According to reports, the Agriculture Department has launched a monsoon tree plantation drive in the rural areas of the capital during which 1,000,000 saplings of various species would be planted.The community has been urged to take active part in the drive and plant more and more trees to protect the environment from degradation and enhance the natural beauty of the surroundings. The Agriculture Department has also started distributing saplings in the community at concessional rates. These saplings are prepared in the nurseries of the department concerned.
