Security at jails acrossPunjab beefed up

ISLAMABAD: The overall security network in and around all jails across the province has further been strengthened in the wake of military operation against terrorists besides intensifying round-the- clock patrolling by armed contingents.Inspector General of Prisons Punjab, Mian Farooq Nazeer, while talking to APP here Monday said that on special directive of the Punjab chief minister, foolproof security arrangements had been made at all prisons with the deployment of special contingents equipped with sophisticated weapons. He said metal detectors, screening machines and modern network close-circuit television sets had been installed at all jails to check the entry of unauthorised persons, besides arms and ammunition.He said all regional DIGs had also been directed to ensure the strict compliance of the directive by paying surprise visits to jails in their jurisdiction. He said all Superintendents of Jails had also further been directed to submit their security inspection report daily to their respective DIG, failing which strict action would be taken.He said according to the new security plan, no visitor would be allowed to enter jail premises without the original identity card. He said the record of all visitors is being maintained on computer daily and there would no meeting with any prisoner after the scheduled time. He said in case of any security lapse, the Superintendent of Jail will be taken to task. Mian Farooq Nazeer said all Deputy Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents will also pay at least two or three visits daily to barracks assigned to them for maintaining discipline.He said he himself would also make surprise visits to jails to monitor security arrangements besides checking the quality of food and conditions of hospitals.Superintendent Camp Jail Naveed Ashraf when contacted said that IG instructions in this regard have been fully implemented in true letter and spirit as there will be no compromise on security and discipline at any cost.
