Cellular service remains suspended on Independence Day

ISLAMABAD: Owing to the Azadi March of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) Inqilab March, the mobile phone and wireless services remained suspend in parts of the capital on the Independence Day.Earlier, on directions of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the cellular mobile operators shut down their networks in the sensitive Red Zone area of the capital. Also a notice was sent to the mobile companies that asked all to remain prepared for the suspension of the services in other parts of the capital as well. However, on the direction of NECTA (National Counter Terrorism Authority), the PTA on Thursday instructed the cellular mobile operators to starts the service in the Red Zone for a few hours. The mobile phone service started functioning in the Red Zone for few hours on the day of independence.Similarly, the people living in the Red Zone on Thursday said that they have been facing difficulties due to the suspension of cellular service, adding miseries to the residents of the capital that were already facing problems due to containers, barricades, trenches etc. Currently, the span of the service closure starts from Pakistan Secretariat in Sector G5, President House, Parliament House, Prime Minister House, Diplomatic Enclave, Bari Imam, and the surrounding regions, i.e. area starting from Margalla Road to Kashmir Chowk and China Chowk till Quaid-i-Azam University.A spokesperson of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Tuesday that on the directions of the government, the mobile phone service was suspended from the 12th in the Red Zone, till the next directions from Interior Ministry in this regard.The sources said that following the instructions of the Interior Ministry, the mobile phone services remained suspended in parts of the twin cities. Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority was advised to consult all the cellular mobile operators regarding the closure of the mobile phone service in different districts of Punjab, including the twin cities in accordance with the government’s plan. The sources also informed that the mobile phone service would remain suspended in the Punjab, particularly on the rout of ‘Azadi March’ and ‘Inqilab March’.
